I'll bet your wondering how in the world a Philly Steak
& Hoagie Shop ended up in the
middle of New Mexico.
Well, I'm going to tell you how.
My husband & I were both born and raised in Philadelphia.
After we married, we moved to New Jersey and lived there for
30 years.
We moved to New Mexico in 1989.
We had retired from our corporate jobs on the East Coast
& decided it was time to get away from the stress & the crowds and find
a more peaceful place to live.
When we moved here, we loved everything about New Mexico, but,
we could not find a decent Steak Sandwich or Hoagie.
We tried all over and even resorted to a (it begins with an "S"), but
they just didn't have that Philly taste.
They were made all wrong, so we decided to take the plunge and become
entrepreneurs and
open our own Steak & Hoagie Shop.
In May of 1991, "Barbs East Coast Subs"
was born.
We weren't sure how a Steak & Hoagie Shop would go over in
a small town like Carrizozo,
but we were pleasantly surprised to find out that the residents were very
happy to see us open.
They were glad to finally have some place different to eat.
We have met travelers from all over the world,
and in 1993 and every year since then, we have been listed in
Frommer's State Guide to New Mexico.
We consider this to be quite and honor.
Our shop has been open almost 10 years, & hopefully we'll
see at least 10 more.
If you are in our town, or passing through, please stop in for
a visit.
We'll be glad to see you.
